Wrought Iron Garden Benches

Author: Jennifer Bailey

Wrought iron is a material that refers to both a type of metal and also to a process of formation of the metal. It is actually a variety of iron which has additives that make it twistable at a low corrosion rate. This decorative iron is used in creating reproductions for patio furniture, garden benches and window screens. The difference between wrought iron and steel is that it is impregnated with tiny slivers of iron silicate that change the chemical properties of the iron to create a new and beneficial metal.

It is quite beneficial to buy a wrought iron garden bench as it is resistant to corrosion and keeps a great finish. Most metal benches have ugly patches of discolored rust when corroding; wrought iron benches distribute the rust into a beautiful dappled coppery or brownish finish. Of course, if you do not want this discoloration to occur, then it is advised to keep the bench indoors! When buying a wrought iron bench, it is advised to go in for a bench that is not too big in size. A four foot bench can seat two people who dont mind sitting close to each other, while a five foot bench should suffice for friends. It is better to buy a bench from your local furniture or garden supply store. This is because you will then save money on shipping!

Like all other metal benches, a wrought iron garden bench is rather heavy and solidly constructed, but may be less comfortable to sit on. So to make yourself more comfortable, you could perhaps use a cushion or a pillow on the seat to make the seat comfortable. Just make sure that the bench suits your requirements before actually venturing to buy one. It should blend well into your garden, and be comfortable to you too!
